I’m obsessed with my Roomba. So much so that sometimes I think I should have one for each room in my house. It doesn’t even bother me that I’m about to give you 9 amazing reasons to fall in love with a vacuum cleaner because honestly, it’s that great. I still need and use my beloved Dyson for heavy duty work, but now we’re like a 3 person/machine/robot team that vacuums the whole house together.
So why in the world is the Roomba so amazing?? Let me tell you. 🙂
Your Toddler Can Now Do Your Vacuuming
My son learned to vacuum at 18 months. Eight. Teen. Months. Not only could he do it on his own, but he absolutely loved it (and still does). In fact, it’s part of his morning routine. Get dressed. Get breakfast. Turn on Roomba. Toddlers love helping out and this is one of the few ways that actually does feel like he’s helping.
It Goes Where No Man or Woman Can Go
Under the couch? Check. Under the 600 lb. armour? Check. Cats favorite hiding spot? Check. The first time I witnessed this happen I was totally giddy. Then I saw all the dust it scooped up and I couldn’t believe how much allergens we were harboring everywhere! My husband’s allergies are awful, so the Roomba has helped so much by sweeping up dust in places that you just don’t get to regularly (if at all).
It is Multi-Tasking at It’s Finest
Sometimes I think our current understanding of multi-tasking is a little misguided. Talking to your husband while texting your sister? Not really that smooth. Vacuuming while also moving laundry from the washer to the dryer? Not happening. Oh wait a minute….you know where I’m going with this. 🙂 The Roomba finally lets you actually multi-task. Turn it on in your bedroom and leave. Go do the laundry, and then….
You Can Walk into a Clean Room
This feels so much better than when you’ve finished vacuuming yourself and get to look around at your clean carpet. I mean, that feels good, but definitely not as good as walking into a room that has vacuumed itself. That should be the way it always is.
You Can Set It and Forget It
Just when you think it can’t get more amazing, it does. Because this little robotic vacuum has a timer that lets you schedule when you want it to start vacuuming. That means it can vacuum for you while you’re at work, running errands, or sleeping through the night. And then…
When It’s Done, It Walks Itself Back to It’s Charging Station
See? I told you, this thing is amazing. Not only can you set it and forget it, but it will recharge itself so that it can do the same thing the next day and all you have to remember is to regularly dump out whatever it sweeps up.
It’s the Dog You Don’t Have to Feed or Walk
Of course I love dogs and I miss having one, but there’s no way we can add one to the family right now. So we miss out on the joy of having a cute creature that scoops up every morsel that my toddler drops from the high chair. But what’s the next best thing? A non-hairy, non-pooping, non-barking robot that zips around scooping up all of my son’s morsels. And I’m possibly just as emotionally attached.
You Can Easily Carry It Between Rooms
When you don’t have a toddler attached to your hip, this may not matter. But once you’ve got that extra 25 lbs you’re lugging around everywhere you’ll appreciate a small vacuum that can be carried and started using only one hand.
You Will Feel Soooo High Tech
This isn’t the 50’s, ladies! Time to be high-tech moms. Throw up your feet, enjoy your cocktail, and let the Roomba do your sweeping. 🙂

Armour? Did you mean armoire? 😉
I LOVED this article because it’s true! 🙂 My sweet husband bought “Alice” for me for Christmas. She’s a 650 model. I have her scheduled to vacuum Monday through Friday and it is wonderful coming home from work with my floors and area rug clean. I have a little dog that sheds a lot and a busy family who come home everyday, only to leave again for whatever reason… leaving dirt & crumbs behind them. A “no shoe” policy in our house would never work but Alice takes care of all of it.
On my days off, I like to do what I call “interactive vacuuming.” In other words, I move things that Alice might bump into and can’t get under or around and I let her run free in bedrooms & bathrooms that she is restricted from (thanks to the virtual wall device that came with her) during the week.
Like other devices & things I own that I can no longer live without, Alice has made that list! I will always have a Roomba!
So, what model do you own or recommend?
I have the 770 (http://amzn.to/1Osjtlu) which is for pets and allergies and I LOVE it! They are always updating their versions, so the newest one may also be just as good (or better), but I can definitely say first hand that the 770 finds and picks up a ton of dust, which I’m really grateful for.
This has been on my wish list for a while but I haven’t been ready to spend the money. Maybe it’s time to start hinting for Christmas!
I’ve always wondered about these! I love the idea of having it vacuum the floors for me while we’re out. Ever since my second was diagnosed with a house dust allergy we’ve been vacuuming every day.
I LOVED our Roomba, we called her Rosie. She was awesome for picking up after all the pet fur and we would turn her on as we left the house for the day. Unfortunately she eventually got sick and she isn’t budget-friendly to replace. I want another one though!
