One of my favorite parts of the holiday season is opening up Christmas cards from family and friends…especially the photo ones!
So each and every year I am twisted apart trying to figure out what to do with them when the holiday season ends. Throwing them away seems awful, saving them seems pointless.
So I end up making a choice – some stay on the fridge permanently, some sadly head to the trash.
Until this year.
Finally, I came up with a way to not only save them, but actually give them a practical purpose!
Ready for it???
Hygge, the age-old Danish concept of happiness, has traveled the high seas and is working it’s way through the American culture. Its popularity isn’t surprising – Denmark is consistently ranked as the happiest country in the world. So why wouldn’t we want to take a page from their book?
Christmas is no exception. In fact, if there was ever a time you should work on increasing the hygge in your life, it would be the holidays. As luck would have it, Christmas and hygge go hand-in-hand, so adding hygge to the holiday season is easy and enjoyable.
I have a preschooler who is obsessed with being an engineer. It started young with mega blocks. He would build a tower taller than himself when he could barely even walk. Then he moved onto trains. And I’m telling you, he was (and still is) obsessed with trains. He recently came up to me with a new train and said “Mommy, look at this. See how the piston moves the piston rod and then that moves the coupling rod and then that makes the wheels move? See? See? See how it works?”
So, needless to say, I’ve somehow reached a point where my 3-year old knows more about engineering than I do.
I am bound and determined to make sure I give this little guy all the opportunities I can find to help him succeed as an engineer, but for now, that’s just going to come from his toys!
So if you’ve got a little engineer on your hands too, give these gifts a try. You will be blown away by how well they do!
Looking for stocking stuffer ideas for a 1-year old girl in your life? You’ve come to the right place. 😉
Christmas is one of my favorite times of the year, so shopping for stocking stuffers is something I look forward to every single year…and I start early! And this year is extra special because I have a new little almost-1-year-old girl to shop for!
Years of shopping for her brother has made the task of coming up with the perfect stocking stuffers a little easier, but there are still some things that are perfect just for little girls!
Hopefully this list will make your shopping a little easier this year:
I’m not going to lie, I absolutely love shopping for my kids for Christmas and there’s something special about stocking stuffers! These were always the first things my sisters and I opened as kids and I hope that my kids look forward to it like I did.
So if you’re on the hunt for stocking stuffers for 2-year old boys, this list is for you! These were the biggest hits for my son when he was 2…and many still make regular appearances years later!
Good luck with your shopping and happy holidays!

I’ve got some definite tech lovers in my family, so this list was really easy to put together. Some are past successes that I wish I could just give again, others will be making their appearance at the next holiday season. Thankfully, my husband and Dad have both agreed not to read this post (it will be really hard for them, I’m sure), so I can be totally honest with you. 🙂 They also both weighed in on these ideas, so I can tell you exactly what they were thinking.
Here we go! The best gifts for the tech loving man in your life:
Christmas for your 3-year old is a BIG deal. In many ways, it’s almost like their first Christmas because they’re finally old enough to understand everything and get excited! Which means you obviously don’t want to leave out any detail – including the stocking! Stockings are a ton of fun to shop for, but obviously you don’t want to spend too much money. All of these ideas are relatively cheap, but don’t forget about the easy wins, like their favorite snacks! Those will help to fill up the stocking so you can mix it up with other nice things.
Shopping for 1-year olds can be so much fun. Everything is brand new to them! But it can still be tough because they haven’t quite grown into full-blown toys and there’s just so much out there to choose from.
My son was fortunate to be showered with gifts as a 1-year old and there were definite, obvious winners. Luckily, you don’t need to spend a lot for these little guys, which is especially the case when you’re looking to fill up their first little stocking! All of these gifts are inexpensive and small, so they’re perfect for little stocking stuffers!

Last year for Christmas, I wrapped all of our gifts in shipping paper and did my best to spruce them up with some fun embellishments. My son had been with me every step of the way (whether he liked it or not), so I finally figured out a way to get him even more involved in the process.
So how exactly does one get a toddler involved in gift wrapping??
Drum roll please….finger paint!
Sometimes I feel like every single person I shop for is a person that already has everything. I’m constantly scouring the internet for good ideas and trying to find something they’ve never seen before. Sometimes I get lucky, other times not so much. But there’s one thing that is always a winner (and it has consistently been my favorite gift to receive) – subscriptions and monthly club boxes. They’re almost always consumable and it’s so nice to be receiving something after the holiday season (especially if you live on a budget). It’s the true gift that keeps on giving.
So if you’re stuck in a rut…especially a last-minute rut, check out some of these subscriptions and clubs to see if any are a good fit:
