I know I’m supposed to stare longingly into my baby’s eyes while I breastfeed her, but let’s be real. Half the time she’s suckling away WHILE sleeping, the other half I’m struggling to keep my own eyes open. And books just don’t do it for me when I’m drained and tired. But TV does. And not just any TV. Only certain shows make the cut when I’m trying to keep my cool at 3 am.
There’s something special about these kind of shows. They’ve all got strong female leads (duh, those are the best), but more importantly, they won’t leave you in tears. Sorry Grey’s Anatomy, you’re a wonderful show but NOT what I need to see while hormones are zipping through my sleep deprived body and I’m cradling my newborn.
So if it’s 3 am where you are and you’re trying to figure out how to keep yourself awake, distracted, and calm, add these shows to your list and relax a bit!

I’m always on the hunt for the best documentaries to watch, so putting this list together was a no-brainer! There’s a ton out there these days, but some just can’t be beaten. Every documentary on this list is one that you’ve got to see for yourself!
They will change the way you look, think, act, and feel. These are definitely the best out there.
Nothing makes me happier than coming across an amazing book that completely changes your life. The ones that get you so excited in the morning that you achieve way more than you normally do. You have an extra beat in your step. You exercise more, you eat better. You smile more and you sleep better.
These books literally have the power to transform your life. They’re so good that they should be reread them every single year (which is what I try to do).
So what are these amazing books? The best of the best? The ones you should definitely reread every single year? 😉 Here they are:
In my attempt to read more books this year, I’ve come across some real winners and some ho-hum forgettables. Even a mediocre book can sometimes be a welcome break from reality, but what I really love is a book that is so exciting that I actually get an adrenaline rush when I’m reading it. And I’m not talking about the rush that comes with finding out who the killer is or a steamy romance scene. I’m talking about the rush from that AH-HA moment that makes you realize one small tweak to your life could help you achieve your next goal…or the moment you realize that you actually can quit your job and do what you love…or even just deciding what your next pursuit will be. THOSE moments are the best.
I set out this year with a few different goals. One of them: Read more. I had been making a list of books I’d heard good things about, so when the New Year hit, I knew exactly which book I’d be starting with: The Miracle Morning by Hal Elrod. I even paid for it because I couldn’t find a free copy anywhere and I had a feeling about this one.
I got lucky with a son who absolutely loves to read and look at books, but that love of reading doesn’t seem to translate into an appreciation for keeping the books in good condition. So, for the time being, we’re only using board books so that he can use them however he likes (and for the most part, they have proven to be indestructible). Luckily, it has turned out that board books aren’t that expensive either, so I’ve been able to get most of them in the $3 range on Amazon.
So if you’re looking for a good gift idea for your toddler or just need some new inspiration to get them using new words, try out these board books that have been big winners in our house:
