I’m a HUGE fan of self-help books…though not even slightly a fan of referring to them as “self-help books.” So I’m going to call them what they are – motivational books. These are the books that get you so excited in the morning that you achieve way more than you normally do. You have an extra beat in your step. You exercise more, you eat better. You smile more and you sleep better. They literally have the power to transform your life. And when they’re that good, you should definitely reread them every single year (which is what I try to do).
So what are the best of the best? The ones you should definitely reread every single year? 😉 Here they are:
In my attempt to read more books this year, I’ve come across some real winners and some ho-hum forgettables. Even a mediocre book can sometimes be a welcome break from reality, but what I really love is a book that is so exciting that I actually get an adrenaline rush when I’m reading it. And I’m not talking about the rush that comes with finding out who the killer is or a steamy romance scene. I’m talking about the rush from that AH-HA moment that makes you realize one small tweak to your life could help you achieve your next goal…or the moment you realize that you actually can quit your job and do what you love…or even just deciding what your next pursuit will be. THOSE moments are the best.
I set out this year with a few different goals. One of them: Read more. I had been making a list of books I’d heard good things about, so when the New Year hit, I knew exactly which book I’d be starting with: The Miracle Morning by Hal Elrod. I even paid for it because I couldn’t find a free copy anywhere and I had a feeling about this one.
I got lucky with a son who absolutely loves to read and look at books, but that love of reading doesn’t seem to translate into an appreciation for keeping the books in good condition. So, for the time being, we’re only using board books so that he can use them however he likes (and for the most part, they have proven to be indestructible). Luckily, it has turned out that board books aren’t that expensive either, so I’ve been able to get most of them in the $3 range on Amazon.
So if you’re looking for a good gift idea for your toddler or just need some new inspiration to get them using new words, try out these board books that have been big winners in our house:
There are so many things I love about Fall, but definitely one of the best are all the new and returning shows coming back from their summer break. And this year is definitely no exception. Not only are there some awesome cliff hanger to wrap up, but there are quite a few new and definitely promising shows that I can’t wait to get more of.
So without further ado, clear your calendars and start planning your TV parties so you’ve got time to watch these gems:
If you’ve already heard of Marie Kondo’s The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up, then you probably don’t think I’m crazy. Otherwise, I imagine you’re wondering why the heck you should spend your time reading a book about “tidying up.” Either way, I PROMISE you will absolutely love this book. While it is certainly 100% about cleaning up, it somehow manages to also be a truly inspirational book that promises to transform your life (i.e. by tidying up your home you will ultimately tidy up your problems).
If you’re looking for documentaries about the food you’re eating, you’ve come to the right place! But be forewarned, after you’ve seen these, you’ll never be able to eat the same way again! Luckily, that will most likely be for the better. Happy watching 🙂
I’m a total documentary junkie, so when I come across a good one that I love, I typically do what I can to find more like it. That is exactly what happened after I watched one of these (I’ve watched them each a few times so I can’t even remember which one was the first!). The greatest part about these specific documentaries is that they are bound and determined to very, very seriously change the way you eat. I’m not exaggerating – there’s just no way you can’t be affected by the messages in these movies.
So…if you’re looking for a way to jump start a diet, make a lifestyle change, lose weight, or are just in need of filling your Netflix queue, watch. these. documentaries. I’m telling you, you will be thinking differently once you’re done!
