Before having kids, Halloween was just a so-so holiday that really only served to pave the way for Christmas (in my biased opinion, at least ;-)).  But AFTER having kids, Halloween became so much more! Kids LOVE Halloween and it can easily turn into one of those holidays that is never forgotten…regardless of the time of year. And that’s exactly the case with these fun Halloween books for kids.

They’re perfect for getting excited in September and October, but really you’ll probably find yourself reading them all year long!

There are appearances from a lot of the regular favorites – the Berenstain Bears, the Little Blue Truck, and Pete the Cat.  And also some new favorites that are great enough to stand on their own.

No matter which of these Halloween books you pick, your kids will love them and they will certainly elevate an already fun and exciting holiday!

These amazing Halloween books for toddlers and young readers are fun enough that they'll want to keep reading them way past Halloween night.

The Night Before Halloween

The Night Before Halloween is such a great twist on the Christmas classic ‘Twas the Night Before Christmas.

The whole book rhymes, just like the original, but the entire theme is Halloween-related, with witches, ghosts, goblins, and ghouls all working together to get ready for their big night – Halloween.

This is a really fun Halloween book that is perfect for kids of all ages, so you’ll be able to not only read it all year long…but also year after year.

Room on the Broom

Room on the Broom is such an amazing classic Halloween book for young kids and toddlers.

It’s a great not-too-scary story about a friendly witch who makes new friends along her journey.

This is a really cute story that is a nice change from a lot of the other fun Halloween books for kids.

And if your child really loves it, there’s a Netflix special that turned it into a movie!

Goodnight Goon

Goodnight Goon is the spooky cousin of Goodnight Moon, the bigtime classic that you may already own.

It has the same rhyming and theme of Goodnight Moon, only with a Halloween twist.

This is a really fun way for your kids to be introduced to the classic creepy Halloween characters (like goblins and monsters), but in a not-so-scary way.

This is without a doubt one of my children’s favorite Halloween books and certainly one that is read all year long.

The Itsy Bitsy Pumpkin

The Itsy Bitsy Pumpkin is a great Halloween book for toddlers because it uses the classic Itsy Bitsy Spider song, but with a fun Halloween twist!

The story is short, but really cute, which is perfect for toddlers because it will keep their attention and you can read it over and over…which is what they love.

This is a great alternative to candy for little toddlers that are just figuring out how fun Halloween can be.

Spooky Wheels on the Bus

Spooky Wheels on the Bus is another great classic-song-turned-Halloween-book that all kids will have a really fun time with.

The new take on Wheels on the Bus is silly and fun, without being too scary.

And best of all, it incorporates the same tune that kids will be used to!

This is a great Halloween books for kids, and another one that could be great for toddlers.

Berenstain Bears Trick or Treat

The Berenstain Bears books are always great choices for kids and Berenstain Bears Trick or Treat is definitely no exception.

This is a great Halloween story with fun costumes and not-too-scary Halloween topics, but also with a great lesson learned at the end about acceptance…and that sometimes, looks can be deceiving.

This is definitely a Halloween book for kids that will be read throughout the year.  And perfect for young children that are starting to learn to read!

Happy Halloween, Daniel Tiger

If your child likes Daniel Tiger, then there’s no question they’ll love Happy Halloween, Daniel Tiger!

There is nothing scary in this Halloween book, which makes it a great addition to your child’s library and definitely a book that will be read all year long.

In the story, Daniel and his friends all pick out their Halloween costumes to wear for Trick-or-Treating.

The book is a lift-the-flap book, so it’s especially exciting for younger kids and toddlers that get excited to interact with books.

Daniel Tiger is a great character for all kids to be introduced to, so this is a really great choice for a children’s Halloween book.

Pete the Cat: Trick or Pete

Pete the Cat is another really popular character, especially for young readers, so Trick or Pete is a great Halloween book to choose and definitely one that will get them excited!

In this book, Pete and his friend goes Trick-or-Treating and encounter a lot of the classic Halloween characters, but in a not-too-scary way.

This is also another Halloween lift-the-flap book, which is another exciting element of interaction!

Little Blue Truck’s Halloween

Little Blue Truck’s Halloween is a great Halloween book for toddlers, especially if they love the original Little Blue Truck.

With the same rhyming theme, The Little Blue Truck goes to pick up each of his friends for a costume party.

The big difference between the two books, however, (in addition to the Halloween-theme) is that this book also has flaps, so your child can guess who is dressed up in each costume.

This is another really fun Halloween book to add to your children’s library!

Hoot Howl Halloween

If your little one loves books with bells and whistles, Hoot Howl Halloween is the book for you!

This book not only has a story and illustrations, but also sounds that correspond to different elements of Halloween.

These interactive books can be a really fun addition to a children’s library and the fact that this one is Halloween-themed makes it even more exciting!

I hope you get a chance to read some of these Halloween books for kids with your family! It’s a great way to make the most of the season and get really excited about the holiday ahead.

Happy Halloween!
