Daily affirmations have the ability to completely change your life and provide daily inspiration that you need to make your life better. Here's how to use them (plus a free printable list!).

What are Daily Affirmations?

In a nutshell, daily affirmations are self-empowering statements that you say to yourself each and every day that are intended to change your life through positive thinking. These statements do not need to be totally true (yet), they just need to be something you want to be true. Your daily affirmations will ultimately build the foundation for the life that you want to live.

I am beautiful. Wealth is constantly flowing into my life. I am an expert in my field. My marriage is strong. My children are happy, healthy, and successful. I am living my dream.  Today, something amazing is going to happen to me.

Your thoughts create your reality.  It’s really that simple.

This brilliant quote (no one really knows exactly which visionary first used it) perfectly sums up the effect that daily affirmations will have on your life:

best inspirational quote of all time! Our thoughts become our words, our words become our beliefs, our beliefs become our actions, our actions become our habits, and our habits become our realities.

In short – your daily affirmations will become your reality.

It’s important that you say these affirmations everyday, but it’s up to you how and where you do it.  Look yourself in the mirror, say them out loud during your commute, read them on your phone in the bathroom, hang the list on your microwave.  You just need to find what works for you and then keep at it!

So now for the fun part!  Time to come up with your personal list of daily affirmations…

How to Find Your Daily Affirmations

Coming up with the perfect list of daily affirmations can be intimidating, but there are a ton of ways to do it.

**It’s really important to remember that this is a personal thing and no one else really needs to know what your daily affirmations are, so don’t let self-conscious feelings keep you from creating an amazing list. It’s totally normal to feel really weird about this.  That’s good!  It just proves that you really are setting out to transform your life.  If you didn’t feel a little uncomfortable about it, you wouldn’t be taking a huge step.**

Start with My List

It doesn’t get easier than this!

I have a great list of daily affirmations that I used before I began altering them to perfectly fit my life.

These are a perfect place to start.  After you’ve experienced for yourself just how impactful they can be, you can create your own list.

Make a List of What You Want

Financial freedom?  A happy marriage?  Fit body?  Think of everything you want to have in your life and incorporate it into your daily affirmations.

For example, if you want to earn more money, your daily affirmations should include statements like “Wealth is constantly flowing into my life.” “I am wealthy enough to have everything I’ve ever dreamed of.” If you want to get healthier, your affirmations should sound like “I am healthier than I’ve ever been.” “I am beautiful and attractive.” “My body is my greatest asset.”

Remember – your thoughts become your words and your words become your reality!

Make a List of Insecurities…Then Flip Them

You don’t want to spend time dwelling on your insecurities, but you may want to spend time eliminating your insecurities.  Consider the things that make you feel insecure and then come up with statements that combat them.

If you’re drowning in debt, you need to be saying “I am debt-free.” If you’re unemployed, you need to be saying “I love my job.” “My career is better than I ever thought.”

It sounds ridiculous and crazy, but this is the power that daily affirmations have! If you can’t even bring yourself to say “I am debt-free,” how will you ever actually manage to make it happen?  Sometimes you need to believe something to see it. Just make yourself do it.

Pay Attention to Your Day

When you encounter something that makes you really happy, take note of it so that you can add a daily affirmation that will replicate that feeling.  Also pay attention to struggles that you encounter so that you can create affirmations that will overcome them.

Research and Browse!

There isn’t much that Google and Pinterest won’t hand you, and daily affirmations are no exception! Pinterest is my favorite go-to place for daily affirmation ideas and when I find ones I love, I pin them to my Vision Board (feel free to steal some of my ideas!).  Google is a great backup though, so if you’re not on the Pinterest train, head there.

Some Final Daily Affirmation Tips

If you really want to make the most of your daily affirmations, here are some additional tips you should consider:

  • Leave them everywhere.  The more you see them and say them, the more power they’ll have. Print them and frame them, put them on post-its, add them to your phone.
  • Update them regularly.  These don’t need to be set in stone, so periodically update them.  Not only is it a great refresher, but it will help you accomplish more as your goals change.
  • Make them very specific.  A couple of years ago, I challenged myself to drastically cut my grocery bill.  One of the biggest motivations ended up being specific daily affirmations that I added to remind myself to save, save, save.  It seemed so weird at first, but it had a huge impact, so try to be as specific as you can!

I truly hope you’re leaving here ready to start saying daily affirmations!  They’re one of the greatest additions to my life and have had a huge impact.  Good luck 🙂
